The Blue Lagoon of Malta

The Blue Lagoon of Malta

Malta is an island with many natural beauties, but the most famous of these is the Blue Lagoon, located on the small island of Comino. Here, you'll find rugged cliffs and turquoise waters. The Blue Lagoon has everything you're looking for!

Paradise on Earth

Are you seeking a true paradise? Then you must visit Comino. Once you're there, you'll understand exactly what we mean. Be aware that most of the beach is rocky, with only one small sandy beach. But the water… divine! You can see the sandy bottom, and with your snorkel on, you'll find numerous colorful fish swimming around you! You absolutely must visit the caves around Comino and the Blue Lagoon. There are even caves with sandy beaches inside, where pirates once took shelter for safety. Imagine a little campfire! They were sitting pretty! In the summer, the Blue Lagoon is monitored by lifeguards, which is reassuring for families with children. One thing we absolutely must warn you about: Always wear good shoes when visiting the Blue Lagoon. The boats have designated docking spots, and often you’ll need to scramble a bit before you reach the ‘path’ (if you can even call it a path).  The island is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or for children under three years old, unless you’re very sporty and don’t mind carrying your little one. It’s up to you. Bringing strollers to the Lagoon is not a good idea. It’s fine if you stay on board, but boats are not allowed to dock in the Blue Lagoon, so keep that in mind.

When to Visit the Blue Lagoon

In the off-season, the Blue Lagoon is nice and quiet. The water is still a bit chilly, but Comino has beautiful vegetation that contrasts nicely with the turquoise water! In the summer, many visitors come to the island, making it the busiest time of the year. And Comino is only 1 kilometer in size! So, it gets quite crowded. In the winter, the water of the Blue Lagoon is 16 degrees. A bit freezing! There can be sunny days in the winter, making it pleasant to dip your feet in the water. For the real daredevils: take a refreshing plunge!

Instagram-Worthy Photos of the Blue Lagoon

As you arrive by boat, or even as you sail around Comino, you’ll want to keep your camera ready because the photos you’ll take are going to be spectacular! On the island, you can also capture beautiful shots with a fresh pineapple filled with Piña colada in your hand and the turquoise water behind you. Take a walk (wear sneakers) and discover the Santa Marija Tower behind the Blue Lagoon. This tower served as a filming location for the movie ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’. Comino is full of cumin plants (hence the name), and you can smell them during your walk. Isn’t that unique? Don’t forget to make those pictures!! And walk further, you might be lucky enough to meet the three residents of the island. Sometimes there are even five, as a priest and a policeman from Gozo often cross over from Gozo. Five! What a crowd! Visit this beautiful island, we are sure you will enjoy it! For the best tours to the Blue Lagoon in Comino please book here
