Malta Mania

The reasons why so many vacationers choose Malta every year vary. You can also do all sorts of things on the Maltese Islands; nothing is too crazy here. Young people come there to go out in Paceville or attend the concerts like Isle of MTV. Others come to hike or soak up the culture and book tours. And you can do that to your heart's content on these islands.

Beach Adventures in Malta

Don't think of Malta as a beach island; then your vacation may disappoint. The number of beaches there is limited, and you sometimes must take the bus to reach a nice beach. Avoid the beaches on weekends, as you can walk over the heads then. Locals flock to the sea every weekend.

How to get to Malta?

Malta is an archipelago, so you must take a plane or boat from Italy or Sicily. Malta has a new airline; KM Malta Airlines, and you can book reasonably cheap flights with it. Cheaper prices, of course, can be found with Ryanair, Easyjet or Lufthansa. From the sea you can enter via Sicily, namely from Catania (3 hours) or Pozzallo (1.5 hours). This boat connection is done with the company: Virtu Ferries. This connection is by catamaran that can also carry cars. In any case, it goes nice and fast! Cruise ships also almost always dock in Malta, especially now that there is great political instability in North Africa. When you arrive in Valletta, you can take the Barrakka elevator up to visit Valletta's historic capital. Cruise ships never actually stay more than 1 day. So, you hardly get further than Valletta. But then again, there is plenty to see there. If you're only in Malta for 1 day, stay close, don't go too far away because the traffic is terrible, and you'll spend more time on the bus than walking through quaint old towns, gardens or along cliffs.

Malta with the kids!

Malta has all-inclusive resorts with childcare. So, there you are in the right place as a family. But there are not many children's attractions on the islands. Apart from Marineland (dolphins) and Playmobil (behind the airport, so far away!) there are not really many kids' things to do. Maltese cuisine is not kid-friendly, but since Malta has Italian influences, there is a lot of pasta and pizza. Which the kids love.

Don't forget this

Tipping! The bill you get after a dinner or cab ride does not include tips. Add 5-10% to that. Remember that a cab driver, excursion staff, or anyone involved in tourism often lives on tips. This is because the basic earned salary they have is very low. Shopping. Malta is not an extreme shopping paradise and prices do not differ as much as in Northern Europe. But souvenir shopping, on the other hand, is a must-do. The famous Maltese glassware (Ta Qali) or miniatures of knights and fishing boats, are perfect souvenirs to take home. Also visit the market in Marsaxlokk on Sunday mornings. There, next to the azure waters on the promenade, you will come across countless cute stalls where you will find all kinds of trinkets. You walk around while overlooking the blue harbour with dozens of fishing boats. It is so unique! Sweet souvenirs like nougat and goat cheese products are very popular in Malta. Also be sure to try the local wines.
