The Maltese village festas, locally known as ‘festas’, are a vital part of the cultural identity of both Malta and Gozo. These celebrations, dedicated to each parish’s patron saint, blend long-standing religious rituals with lively communal events. Each parish community honours its own saint, resulting in over one hundred distinct festas held across the islands annually. The festive period often spans an entire week, featuring daily processions, energetic band marches, nightly fireworks displays, and a variety of local culinary delights. One of the most prominent festas is the feast of Santa Marija on August 15, celebrated enthusiastically in Mosta, Gudja, and Victoria (Gozo).
