Malta's Most Popular Excursion

Experience the Crystal Waters of the Blue Lagoon

A boat trip to the Blue Lagoon on the tiny island of Comino is the most popular excursion in Malta. Famous for its vibrant turquoise waters and white sandy seabed, the lagoon looks like a giant natural swimming pool and is an absolute must-do during your Maltese holiday.

Planning Your Blue Lagoon Trip

To get the most out of your day at Comino, keep these tips in mind:

  • It Gets Busy: The Blue Lagoon is incredibly popular in summer. Booking a boat trip that includes sun loungers on deck gives you a comfortable base away from the crowded rocks.
  • Explore Further: Do not just stay at the main lagoon. Take a short walk across Comino to the quieter Santa Marija Bay, or swim over to the small beach on Cominotto.
  • The Crystal Lagoon: Many of our boat trips also stop at the nearby Crystal Lagoon, which is only accessible by sea and offers fantastic snorkeling in deeper water.

Frequently asked questions

Answers for travellers planning a trip to Malta.

How do you get to the Blue Lagoon in Comino?

Only by boat. Cruises leave from Sliema, Buġibba and Ċirkewwa; the crossing takes roughly 20 minutes from Ċirkewwa and up to about an hour and a half from Sliema, with coastal sightseeing on the way.

How long do you spend at the Blue Lagoon?

Day cruises usually give you three to four hours at the lagoon, either at anchor for swimming or ashore. Trips that also call at Gozo split the day between the two islands, so check the itinerary on the tour page.

When is the best time of day to visit the Blue Lagoon?

Early morning and late afternoon are quietest and the light on the water is at its best. In July and August a sunset cruise avoids both the midday crowds and the strongest heat.

Is the Blue Lagoon suitable for children?

Yes. The water is shallow, clear and sheltered, and the boats carry child fares. There is very little natural shade on Comino, so bring sun protection, water and shoes that grip on the rocks.
